Riding in Hawaii

While on Oahu, on a college graduation gift trip for my daughter, I observed many nice, powerful, fast cars and motorcycles.

But why? In Honolulu 25mph is all you're going to do...max. Outside Honolulu, even on the "H" roads, yer only going to legally do 60ish.

Actually, a 250 dual purpose bike would be the best. I mean it was 75° F. every freaking day....in January.

Still, I recommend the islands to anyone...maybe the most beautiful place in the world. I could live there except it is just not big enough. I need to know that I can hop on the 'ol Vgo and go 1000 mi without hitting an ocean.

Recently I've been heavily daydreaming about a new bike. I love the BMWF800. The Kaw Concours 1400 is a bargain touring bullet, though a very heavy one. Most recently, since I really do like the old Virago, I've been thinking about a dual purpose bike, probably the Kaw KLR650. This is a bike that has been ridden all over the world through sand, muck and general roadlessness. Still, it will do 80mph all day on the slab. It is the perfect transport for the Red Desert, a recently acquired destination of mine. The '08 KLR has significant improvements and is relatively low cost.

So many bikes and so little time...and money.
