Ah Winter

Just cold enough to keep the Vgo home. Well, I needed to drive the car and check out the new hoses and overflow tank anyway.

Hmmm, how about some "errands" at lunch, like going to the motorcycle superstore and look at stuff?

08 Kaw KLR650. A good looking, tall motorcycle. Geez the old Virago has gotten myself accustomed to that 27" seat height. 35"? Absolutely must get closer to the ground than that. When I was a kid I would ride my brother's 26" bicycle (my head was a little higher than the handle bars) by propping it against the porch, getting the left side pedal "up" and stepping on the pedal as I pushed away from the porch. This working fine as I would slide side to side to press the pedals down. There was, however, no way to stop other than to crash as slowly as possible. I would do this for hours.

I don't want to do the same on the KLR. There are ways: lower seat, lowering dog bones, and sliding the forks down. Maybe as much as 5”. You do give up some suspension, though.

Kaw Concours 1400. A beautiful thing. Outrageously fast, low priced. Actually quite perfect except it weighs on the high side of 700lbs. I probably couldn't get the thing upright if I dropped it.

Honda ST1300. More beauty; fast, smooth, reliable. Still on the low side of 700 lbs. Friend of mine loves the STs (owns 3) but, due to knee inflexibility, he always puts it on center stand so he can step onto it. A 240lb ex marine and he struggles with it.

Everything else was cruiser or crotch rocket. Not interesting enough for me to look at. Nothing anymore like the Virago…all bloated or geeked for ostentation.
